KANPUR: An organisation of Muslim professionals in Kanpur on Thursday started an initiative to dispel misconceptions about the Agnipath scheme, roping in clerics and imams of mosques to appeal to youth during Friday prayers to utilise the opportunity to serve the country by joining the armed forces.
"We support the central government's Agnipath scheme, just as we do other such programmes. Our message to eligible Muslim youths will be conveyed by clerics and imams of mosques through a special appeal," said Shahid Kamran, patron of the Association of Muslim Professionals.
Another member said the organisation was using social media to "guide" Muslim youth looking for job opportunities in the Army. "We are approaching coaching institutes and colleges run by Muslim bodies to help in the initiative."
This came even as Congress leader Rahul Gandhi
on Thursday criticised the Agnipath scheme and said BJP
had "broken the dream" of lakhs of youth to serve the country and asserted that a storm will rise from their tears that will break PM Modi's "arrogance of power", reported PTI.
